Qualitative 

Personal opinion and individual takes. Not fact based information, completely subjective opinions. 

Primary

First hand research that you have conducted yourself. this includes your own analysis of texts, surveys, interviews and focus groups. this takes longer to conduct but is more specific and tailored to you and what your researching.

quantitative

Actual facts and statistics that can be measured. usually this applies to numbers and graphs of proven information that undisputed. 

secondary

Research that's based of pre-existing research that has been documented. This kind of research cannot be as easily trusted since you don't really know where they gathered that data from but its quick and easy to get information from it. It includes books, reviews, publicly accessible stats, etc.

This kind of research can be useful since it gives us insight to what an audience wants from a piece of media/what media attracts specific audiences. we can see peoples real thoughts an opinions by looking through comments and reviews, and improve our own work by learning from mistakes other people have made.
