Magazines

Magazines are publications issued consistently that are tailored to one genre or demographic. They can be about anything but always have a target audience, containing advertisements and content that alines with that audience's interests.

Horror Magazines

Horror magazines have been around since the 1920's and are still popular today. an effective horror magazine has things like a scary/horrified main image, a fitting typeface, colours like red or black and coverlines that correlate to the horror theme.

Lots of red!

Lots of black!

mY mAGAZINE cover

I designed a front cover that incorporates horror tropes as well as all the elements you'd typically see on a magazine cover.

The masthead is in an appropriate, horrifying font. the I in fright is also an exclamation point, implying it's being screamed. I think Fright is a good name for a horror magazine since its short, to the point and encompasses what horror is all about.

My main cover line is the biggest, boldest piece of text on here. I also tried to add some alliteration with damnation and depths.

This blood graphic at the top fills out negative space as well as being a great signifier of the genre

Rhetorical questions intrigue potential readers, makes them more likely to buy a magazine.

The cover image definitely correlates with the genre, as the subject looks somewhat frightened and brandishes a knife covered in some kind of liquid (could be blood)

Many of my coverlines have big flashy words like, PLUS, EXCLUSIVE or EXPOSED! that would hopefully catch a persons eye and make it more likely they'll pick up a copy. I tried to stick to 3 or 4 colours, specifically red since its a common thing for red to represent danger or warning. Red and black are used abundantly in horror films so I tried to incorporate that here. However, i needed something brighter and more eye catching, hence the yellow.
