Self assesment

So far I've developed skills in a range of areas, from video and audio to print media and advertisements. I enjoyed filming footage, as well as photography and image editing. I did not find podcast very engaging, though i found making a website fun. i think i work best when it comes to design and photography/filming, video editing i find much harder and more tedious. i often find it difficult managing my time and staying on task, so i will have to account for this when planning my fmp. i work well from home, evidenced by the fact i filmed and edited my music video over a weekend, so i can catch up and develop the idea in time away from college. I'm familiar with software like photoshop and premier pro and am able to use them to create a desired effect, though admittedly i am better with photoshop.
i do not enjoy or work very well with groups, or at least with the people I've been working with over the months, but i can communicate well and organize ideas into a successful media product, shown through the Halloween themed product we made as a group.
i know I'm effective at problem solving and finding ways around issues in a project, since i had to do some extra work in order to get my animated podcast logo to work on the website by using JavaScript and Wix's Dev mode.

For my FMP I'd ideally like to implement some kind of drawing or animation since its a skill i possess and have a passion for.

Action plan

initial ideas

One major drawback of this idea is that id have to learn how to animate. animation takes a long time for professionals, so it may be too much to animate a short by myself as an amature
PLOT: two friends sneak out so they can hang out together at a rope swing.
i could animate on Adobe Animate. id have to record the dialogue first, then animate over it, then add foley based on the animation
THEMES: i want the film to recreate a feeling of staying out too late with your friends on a school night, peace and freedom.
Animated short film
Video advertisements, print advertisements (billboards, posters etc.), and a website.
all of these will be themed as if they were made 20-30 ago
PSA ad campaign
PSA and campaign made by The Web Preservation Society, a collective aiming to restore and preserve old sites and services from the old web
i want it to be kind of satirical in tone, like people being serious about the loss of silly things like flash games and charlie bit my finger.
id be able to use Photoshop, Premier, and photography skills to create the advertisments. the website ill make on Neocities because wix doesnt offer the look im going for.
short film
a short film set around a minimum wage delivery boy trying to deliver a pizza to 3 bottoms hall, but things just keep going wrong
id need a pizza boy, an outfit for him, permission to film the inside of a takeaway, a car, bricks and maybe a few extra things
at the end id like him to walk back up jacks lane and discover that his cars tyres have been nicked. i can get my dad to do this cuase hes a mobile mechanic
id have to get a camera and tripod from college. id edit it on prmier pro.

Reflecting on feedback I've received, i think it'd be best to develop the ad campaign idea. i agree with the response that highlights how it uses skills i already have instead of having to learn whole new ones. the animation seems like too much, i think i was aiming too big. its definitely possible, but it would've taken a lot of extra time and commitment that i don't have in me. the short film is realistic and definitely achievable, but id have to find people to work with, meaning id be relying on them and their schedule to film. this is inconvenient because what if something changes or someone isn't available, it would affect how quickly i can get my project done. i think an idea where i can complete work by myself is best for me and will be most effective as an fmp.

Internet preservation psa

PSA ad campaign
a short video advertisement following the non profit format, featuring a young person in the future, now old, trying to search for their favorite sites and videos, to no avail. until, they see a pop up for the web preservation society and find that its all archived by the charity.
Two print advertisements, one landscape and one portrait, advertising the service and appealing to the target demographic (young adults, gen z)
making an entire website seems a little unrealistic for the time i have so ill likely go with more of an ad campaign feeling

//
in the advertisements, reference things that were popular across the internet from the early 2000s/2010s, since this is the era that most gen gen z/young people today grew up with and remember the fondest.
another idea for the video advert could be time passing showing kinds playing and having fun behind the computer, until it cuts to the future with the, now old, person sitting down and sharing their childhood memories with their grandkids using the website.
