Rationale

Rationale

During my time taking this course, I have developed several skills, including practical, social and technical facets of the media production process.  When I started, I had a good understanding of photoshop, photography and media analysis. This course has helped me further this understanding, providing me with the tools to critically assess and create affective media. One thing I’ve improved on is working with video/audio, one reason why for my fmp I want to involve more moving images and sound. I feel I’ve shown my capability when it comes to graphics and want to include a range of things in my portfolio. I also feel I have drastically improved my social skills and ability to work with people. At the start, I found it hard to state my ideas with any level of confidence, whereas now I feel I could affectively direct a project and tell others what I need them to do.

Project Concept

Project Concept

For my FMP, I will create a short film/animatic aimed at teenagers and young adults. To do this I will need voice actors, sound effects, premier pro, and Krita – a free drawing software. My animatic will be focused around 2 or 3 main characters working a slow night at a petrol station where hijinks ensue. The dialogue will be mostly unscripted to give it an off-the-cuff feel, since this style of humour is currently very popular with younger people, and the “animation” will not be full animation. Instead, it will be like a slightly more interactive storyboard. I do not have the time nor skill to fully animate a project like this, so an animatic it must be. To create this short, I will need to record my dialogue, cut it down, animate over it, then go in after and add sound effects. I’m choosing to do this as my fmp as it’s a combination of a lot of skills I’ve been working on through my time at college, specifically illustration and editing video & sound. I’ve always struggled with premier pro but it’s always good to step outside your comfort zone, and I trying to broaden my prospects.

Evaluation

Evaluation

I aim to record weekly reflections and ensure I’m remaining on target. I will create a production schedule and try my best to stick to it, though knowing me, this may be easier said than done. Regardless I will try and document all areas of my research & production as well as evaluate my progress regularly. I want to make sure that each decision I make can be easily understood and my that actions are well founded. I will be receiving feedback constantly, via surveys and discussions with other students, which will help me critically assess my choices from an outside perspective. In my final analysis, I plan to reflect on the aims I've set for myself, like how well I've managed by time, as well as how well I've achieved the goal of my project and how effective of a product I feel it is.

Proposed Research

Proposed Research

When researching my FMP I plan on looking at a range of things, like character design, story & character types, 2010s cartoons and the animation process.
