Planning

Planning

This is a rough draft of a script I've made. As previously stated, I want the dialogue to feel somewhat 'real' if that makes sense, so ill have my VA's make things up and go with the flow to give it that dry, personal feel. this script may not be exactly how my final script/project will go, its just a rough idea so we have something to work off.

Looking back there are certain elements of this script that I don't like and will change, like the pumps exploding. I think it breaks the emersion somewhat and doesn't feel very natural. I'm going to create a storyboard too so ill implement these changes on there.

I aim to create a clear and easy to follow narrative. I can do this by showing things are about to happen with the images before they actually do, creating anticipation and a payoff for the audience who is taking it all in. one thing should lead to another, naturally and consisely. my target audience of teenage/young adult boys/men will feel represented within the story by the protagonists, 2 of which are young men. one is a teenager and one is a young adult, in his 20's. they both work minimum wage, dead-end service jobs, an experience most young people will be able to relate to.

Foley

Foley

Foley is the art of creating sound effects, and is a crucial aspect of animation that is often unrecognised by the general audience. Without foley, cartoons would be silent. Cartons, specifically western ones, have always been highly dependent on sound effects. Good sound can make the world feel so much more believable, whereas bad sound that doesn't line up, match or feel right can drastically reduce the quality and watching experience of the show.

For my FMP, I plan to record my dialogue FIRST, then storyboard, then go back to add sound effects or music where necessary. The general rule with animation is record first, then animated based off your audio.

My voice actors are going to be as follows:

- Kye, voicing Employee 2

- Jack, voicing Employee 1 (this is subject to change..)

- Adam, voicing the Boss

- Ashton and I, voicing the aliens

This may change when it comes time to record, depending on availability and how the voices sound. I might sit down to record and realise Ashton is better suited for the boss, I don't know until we get there,

Character Exploration

Character Exploration

Before I begin production I need to flesh out my characters and decide on a design. I made multiple character sheets with mock designs while trying to figure out what I want them to look like.

Storyboard

Storyboard

This is a rough storyboard to help my voice actors know what to do/say. the dialogue written her will not be exactly what's said in the animatic, its just something to base it off.

To draw/animate my storyboard I'm going to use Krita, a free drawing software. Krita is notorious for its confusing layout, with most features hidden behind hard to find panels and dockers. as a result, I've watched a few videos explaining krita and how to use it for animation.

to get up an animation timeline, you have to select settings -> dockers -> animation timeline.
