Essay Ideas

- why did British comedy get weird in the 2000s?

- did social media kill the sketch show?

- how have British shows evolved in their depiction of  the class divide over the years?

- how do British sitcoms use character archetypes to make social or cultural commentary?

Out of these ideas I like "Did social media kill the sketch show?" because its an interesting question that I've thought about before, and something I know would be easy to compile information on.

Research

Social media has been around since the early 80's in some form or another, but it only hit mainstream levels of popularity in the 2000s. Facebook was launched in 2004, YouTube in 2005 and Twitter in 2006. The big one here is YouTube.
